Last year Rick Ray spontaneously traveled to Ukraine from his home and joined forces with the Ukrainian Army to document the war and its impact on the people of the region. The short films that he has produced have been selected to be featured by Babylon ‘13, a collective of high-profile film directors based in Kyiv, charged with documenting war crimes during the conflict. He is the first merican film director to be invited to join this prestigious group of frontline filmmakers.

Set sail with Marlin Darrah, the world’s most traveled filmmaker, to several island gems sprinkled throughout the Caribbean: Havana, Cuba; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Barts; St. Martin; Antigua; Dominica; St. Lucia; and Barbados. From beaches to forest to mountains, here you can see every conceivable shade of blue, so many types of flowers and colored birds. The islands were settled by a combination of migrant tribes from South America, gold-seeking Spaniards and European planters from France, England, Denmark and the Netherlands. The racial mix has produced an incredible musical and artistic energy, which climaxes in the exciting week of Carnival. This program captures the spirt of the Caribbean, exploring all its realms, geography, people, fauna and flora.

The Salt Of The Earth
Photographer Sebastio Salgado, the son of a Brazilian cattle rancher, studied economics at Sao Paulo University, earning a master’s degree in 1968. While working for the Ministry of Finance, he joined the popular movement against Brazil’s military government. Seen as a political radical, he was exiled in 1969 and fled with his wife to France, and earned his PhD at the University of Paris in 1971. While on assignment in Rwanda for the International Coffee Organization, he took his first life-changing photographs and became a freelance photojournalist in 1973.
